Dallas, TX, Jul. 17, 2017 – The City of Kalamazoo, Michigan announced Friday the launch of free Wi-Fi service available at the City’s Bronson Park. The project was designed and implemented by GDT in partnership with the City as part of its ongoing Smart City enablement initiative.
Mayor Bobby Hopewell remarked during the launch that, “Access to the services and information available on the internet is increasingly becoming less of a luxury and more of a necessity in our lives, whether we’re applying for a job, paying our bills, or studying for class.
“We are excited to start offering Wi-Fi in Bronson Park, but this is only the first step in the work ahead to ensure that every resident of our city has access to these resources.”
The Wi-Fi project is part of a larger effort to extend service availability throughout the city. A capital campaign is underway to raise funds for the remainder of the project.
GDT provided the technical design expertise and installation services to turn up the project which included:
- Cisco / Meraki MR84 outdoor high density Wi-Fi access points
- Purple Wi-Fi for guest login, analytics, guest engagement, and marketing
- Silku Millimeter wave point-to-point GB backhaul radios
- GDT design and integration services
Western Michigan Fox affiliate Fox 17 provided coverage of the launch and demonstrated how easily the service can be used by park-goers.
