CUSTOMER REQUIREMENTS
To resolve their challenges, they needed GDT to design and implement a modern, streamlined networking solution that minimized impact on the business. Requirements included:
- Streamlined network with leaf/spine architecture

SOLUTION: Modern, streamlined, high-performing network
GDT worked with the customer to design and implement a modern, streamlined network that could meet their current and future performance, security, and scalability needs. The solution components included:
- An upgrade of the 40 GB fabric to a 100 GB fully redundant Juniper Networks fabric, enabling increased capacity and scalability. This included replacing 152 switches that had reached end of life with new Juniper switches.
- Introduction of high-performance NVMe storage and latest-generation compute, providing improved performance, low-latency, and high-throughput capability, made possible by the 100 GB fabric.
- Increased capability on next-generation firewalls, providing additional throughput and session capacity.
Executing the solution
Our customer’s existing network was very complex, and it was critical for the customer’s research and development teams to continue operating during this transition. GDT technical experts collaborated closely with the customer to architect a flexible and cost-effective approach that would improve, optimize, and simplify their network.
GDT’s ability to bring creative solutions to the table played a pivotal role in the project’s overall success. For example, GDT provided loaner gear while waiting for new equipment to arrive. This enabled our customer to deliver code releases on schedule while reducing project delivery time by several months.
Furthermore, the customer needed GDT to minimize downtime and business impacts, so GDT leveraged our staging and implementation capabilities. GDT’s staging and implementation center is integrated with our warehouse facilities and supports all major vendor technologies. Leveraging the facility’s capabilities enabled us to deploy pre-configured, pre-tested equipment within three short maintenance windows, allowing the customer to optimize their change control window and be as efficient as possible. Without GDT’s staging and implementation services, the installation would have taken ten maintenance windows over the course of 18 months to complete.
As part of the project, GDT also migrated around 20,000 pieces of existing equipment from the old lab environment to the new one. GDT’s professional services capabilities gave us the ability to support every aspect of the implementation.
