GDT Employee Spotlight: William Dunkerley

Meet William—one of the most positive people you’ll ever work with. He recently made the leap from Sales to Marketing, and he’s been bringing fresh ideas and great energy to the team ever since. Whether he’s jumping into a new project or collaborating across departments, William’s upbeat attitude makes a big impact.

How long have you been with GDT, and what does your role entail?

William: I’ve been at GDT for just over two years, and my role is marketing business development specialist. I essentially work with all Account Managers in the East, West, and Central regions to gather leads for new opportunities. I also help with any lead-building and maintenance activities.

You recently moved into a new role at GDT. What has been the most exciting or challenging part of moving into your new role?

William: I transitioned from the sales to the marketing team. The most exciting thing has been learning more about the organization and how everyone works together to make an impact on the business. It’s great to provide new opportunities, but it was challenging at first. We built this role from the ground up, and I am working with so many different people on a daily basis.

Can you describe your team, your team’s role here at GDT, and the dynamics of your team?

William: Our global marketing team, based in the US and India, works together to promote GDT and our products and services. We also provide sellers with the ammunition they need to take to customers and help them understand everything we do.

We are a very collaborative team, and we bounce ideas off one another. Everyone helps each other, and we work collaboratively to help each other with what we are working on. My role relating to leads is very collaborative, working with the sales team, but our entire team collaborates with many parts of the business, such as the partner team and HR.

Is there anything specific you look forward to in 2025 for your team’s goals & initiatives?

William: I am only a couple of months into this role, so I am excited to provide consistent opportunities and leads to the sales organization. I also want to have more consistent communication and understanding between all the teams that marketing works with.

What skills or talents do you bring to your role that you’re particularly proud of?

William: I would say my communication skills are very important in my role. I can talk to different personalities and cater to their needs. Coming from a sales background, it also helps to communicate what our team needs from a content and strategic perspective and what the sales team needs from our team now and in the future.

Who or what inspires you in your career?

William: Overall, completing goals and tasks and helping others inspires me. Everyone says money, but completing something is satisfying because you put so much time and effort into it.

I am inspired by those who have been in business for a long time, such as Account Managers who have figured it out and become successful. My father has also been in the business for a while and is an inspiration to me.

What aspects of our organizational vision, mission, or values resonate with you?

William: I think encouragement of collaboration and openness with one another resonates with me most. We have an open and healthy work environment where we can be honest, say what we think, and bring new ideas to the table, to make us innovative as resellers. Also, being there for others and willing to help is important to me.

What advice would you give to someone new on our team?

William: With any organization, there are different personalities and points of view. Be willing to be yourself and be willing to learn, since there is so much to learn! It is comforting to know someone can help when you need it, and essentially, we are all a team working together towards the same goal.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

William: I would travel to Greece or New Zealand. Greece, because of its history, and I haven’t gotten to visit there yet. New Zealand, because there are a lot of outdoor activities that I would like to do!

Tell us more about yourself outside of work. What are your hobbies and interests?

William: Outside of work, I love working out, being outdoors, and going to sporting events. I am a big TCU fan! I also like superhero stuff and watching drama or crime TV shows and movies.

Thank you, William, for sharing a little about yourself and for the role you play in making GDT a great place to work. Learn more about GDT’s vibrant culture and explore our career options by visiting Life at GDT.
