Employee Spotlight – Carl McKinney

Employee Spotlight - Carl McKinney

Welcome to the GDT employee spotlight for this month! Each month, we select a team member and interview them with a set of questions to gain a deeper understanding of who they are. This month, GDT Marketing Specialist Marissa Gaudet interviewed our amazing Account Executive, Carl McKinney.

Marissa: Hi Carl! Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.  We enjoy getting to know our employees and coworkers here.  How long have you been with GDT and what does your role entail?

Carl: I’ve been here for 18 months. My role is focused on being the lead liaison between my customers and the wealth of resources in which GDT has to support our partners and customers transformation.

Marissa: What would you say is your favorite part about your job?

Carl: The cross-functional collaboration with a multitude of company leaders, OEM sellers, GDT specialists and GDT engineers to achieve/exceed results for our clients.

Marissa: That’s great! You definitely have a great personality.  Before starting at GDT, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

Carl: A Landscape Architect / Urban Planner. I wanted to design golf courses in college.

Marissa: Next question, we’re dreaming big here.  If you could do anything for a job or career, what would it be?

Carl: If my skills allowed, I’d love to be a player on the PGA Tour. Would be enriching to travel to the various sights and share those memories with family and friends.

Marissa: Yes! You would probably end up winning our Fall Classic every year.  What’s a fun fact about you that most people may not know?

Carl: I grew up an avid junior golfer and had a full ride for golf to Hampton University in Virginia.

Marissa: Again, Fall Classic winner!  Where would you say is your favorite place to be or travel to?

Carl: Cape Town, South Africa

Marissa: I would love to hear stories about your travels there! Do you have a motto or personal mantra that you live by?

Carl: Ever forward

Marissa: I like that! Concise yet thought provoking.  What advice would you give the younger you?

Carl: Move with urgency (mistakes are okay) and keep a focus on your faith.

Marissa: If you could meet anyone in the world, past or present, who would it be?

Carl: Nelson Mandela

Marissa: There are so many leaders that would be amazing to meet and learn from.  Last question, is there anything you are currently loving and want to share? This can be a podcast, book, tv show, music, activity, anything!

Carl: WeCrashed (streaming on Apple tv+). Infamous story about the WeWork’s growth and eventual decline.

Did you love this month’s spotlight? Stay tuned for more interviews with our GDT family.
