Welcome to this month’s GDT employee spotlight! Every month we choose an individual from our team and ask them a few questions to get to know them better. This month, GDT Marketing Specialist Marissa Gaudet interviewed our amazing Office Coordinator, Maegan Davis.
Marissa: Hey there Maegan! Welcome to our August Employee Spotlight. Thanks for joining us! To start off, how long have you been with GDT, and what does your role involve?
Maegan: I have been with GDT for nine months now. As an Office Coordinator, I greet all our visitors on campus, assist with coordinating meetings and events, and of course, you can find me in the coffee bar throughout the week making your favorite drinks.
Marissa: One year comes quickly! Time flies. What would you say is your favorite part about your job?
Maegan: My favorite part of my job is interacting with so many different people and departments. I love learning and trying new things, and being in my position has allowed me to gain a lot of experience and knowledge by taking on projects in other departments.
Marissa: I always like getting to see you when I come into the office. Before starting at GDT, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
Maegan: While studying kinesiology at university, some of my professors found out that I had a background in dancing. Because of this, I was presented with the opportunity to work with a non-profit PE program called Dancing Classrooms. For 12 weeks, I got to go to different elementary schools across the DFW region and teach 5th graders ballroom dancing. Going into it, I didn’t know what to expect, but it would probably shock most people to know how much 5th graders love ballroom dancing! It was a very rewarding experience for me to teach them and see their excitement to learn and practice.
Marissa: That sounds like so much fun! Can I hire you to teach me? Next question is, if you could do anything for a job or career, what would it be?
Maegan: If I could do anything, I would love to have a farm where I could take in all kinds of rescue animals to let them live out the rest of their lives. Cats, dogs, cows, goats, rodents, and any animal!
Marissa: That’s a great idea, so many animals need a good home. What’s a fun fact about you that most people may not know?
Maegan: There are probably quite a few things about me that most people would be surprised to hear. One thing that I don’t talk about often that shocks people is when I tell them about my pet snake. His name is Bane, and he is a 5-year-old cinnamon mojave ball python that’s about 4 feet long. I’ve always been an animal lover and would bring home stray animals when I was a kid, including small snakes I found in the yard. I waited a long time to finally have one of my own, but it was inevitable. And no, he has never bitten me.
Marissa: That’s amazing! Snakes are pretty fascinating. My next question is, where would you say is your favorite place to be or travel to?
Maegan: I love to travel. There are not many places I would not want to go. I’d have to say that my favorite place to visit would be England. My best friend of 15 years moved there right out of high school and has lived there ever since. Now she’s married and lives in the Manchester area with her husband and my godson. When I get the chance to travel, going there is always my first choice.
Marissa: I‘m going for the first time next year! I’ll probably be asking you for some recommendations. Tell me, do you have a motto or personal mantra that you live by?
Maegan: Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay Gold.
Marissa: That’s from The Outsiders, right? Is there any advice you would give the younger you?
Maegan: If I could go back in time and give advice to younger me, it would be to not worry so much. Don’t spend so much time worrying about the future and spend more time living in the present. Enjoy life and trust that things will work out how they should.
Marissa: I need to take that advice too. Ok, if you could meet anyone in the world, past or present, who would it be?
Maegan: If I could meet anyone, it would probably be Mary Shelley. She is one of my favorite authors and was a woman ahead of her time who wasn’t afraid to be different.
Marissa: Wouldn’t that be cool to meet such a great author? Is there anything you are currently loving and want to share? This can be a podcast, book, tv show, music, activity, anything!
Maegan: I’m currently loving the new Zelda game, Tears of the Kingdom. It just came out in May, and I have been spending most of my free time playing it since then.
Marissa: I’m horrible at video games, but they are so much fun. Thanks, Maegan, for taking the time to answer my questions!
